The Space Nicks have teamed with an incredible charity this holiday season in the great state of Arkansas.

Soldier ON Service Dogs

Soldier ON Service Dogs (SOSD) was founded by Angie Pratt in September 2014 after a close relative, a Marine bomb technician, was injured in Afghanistan and began experiencing the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  After researching treatments, she realized a service dog would be of great benefit but no such organizations were to be found in this area.  Thus, began Soldier ON Service Dogs, the only organization of its kind in the state of Arkansas.

It’s their mission to operate as a charitable organization by providing, at no charge, trained service dogs and service dog training to qualified veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), and by contributing to the overall knowledge base of best practices associated with service dogs.

SOSD’s goal is to provide a validating study while simultaneously helping to fill the gap in the availability of service dogs here in Arkansas. More specifically, we will have a curriculum based program where we will over the next three years accomplish the following:
1 – Acquire 75 purpose breed dogs.

2 – Train dogs to a service dog level and then extend it to advanced PTSD level.

3 – Screen and match veterans to dogs.

4 – Keep and maintain a database of training methods, trainer, dog, and veteran’s data longitudinally.

SAINT NICK AND THE SPACE NICKS

St. Nick is delivering his toys on Christmas eve when a strange object pops from into sight! After it crash-lands St. Nick discovers Venick from Venus, a strange purple creature with long purple hair! Dressed exactly like St. Nick, Venick tells him that while delivering his own toys on Venus, he tripped on a star and traveled from near to afar, ending up lost here on Earth. Fearing he will not be able to complete his task, he asks our St. Nick for help. When St. Nick says yes, a whole new world of Christmas opens up to them.

REVIEWS FOR OUR BOOK

“Saint Nick and the Space Nicks is a light-hearted, rhyming Christmas story with terrific color illustrations, appropriate for pre-schoolers. In Mears’ active imagination, Christmas is everywhere in space – and each planet has its own Space Nick. This is a goofy story that kids will certainly enjoy, but the illustrations are the best part of the book. The colors are bright and the wide variety of space creatures – versions of Santas and reindeer – are so clever.”

– The Berkshire Eagle

“St. Nick goes intergalactical… a hypothetical collaboration between Clement Clark Moore, who wrote ‘The Night Before Christmas’, and the incomparable Dr. Suess.”

– Berkshire Record
